$275 Million dollars worth of prodigious baseball talent has been sent packing by Red Sox General Manager, Ben Cherington, under the authorisation of Larry, Curly and Mo.
Sometime in the next few hours this infamous four will be checking into the Hotel California and compared to Boston it’s such a lovely place. It’s ironic that the club the players are leaving could also be an allegory for hedonism, self-destruction, and greed.
Staff at Hotel Red Sox will continue working today and the manager will continue to fill the team sheet with names for the remainder of this lost season. It’s saddening that the 100th season of Fenway Park will end as inauspiciously, with the only lasting memories being of discontent among players, poor results, lack of team spirit and mis-management finally leading to the dismantling of a multi million dollar roster.
Meanwhile at Elysian Park the players who were meant to bring success to Boston will be livin’ it up in Southern California. For Dodgers fans this might have been a nice surprise but fans of Boston you must remember this – “You can check-out any time you like, but you can never leave.”
