Josh Beckett Spins the Mariners, Media
“Beckett up to speed”
These are just a few examples of how Beckett not only spun a winning effort against the Mariners, but also spun the headlines in his favour again. A week is a long time in baseball.
Here’s the newsflash, it was one game and it was against the last place Seattle Mariners. In the five games previous to Beckett’s outing Seattle only scored more than 2 runs once. They’ve been no-hit by Philip Humber, who currently sports a 5.77 ERA and can credit that game as his sole victory this year. They haven’t scored double digit runs in a game all season and have a team batting average of just .233.
Forgive me if I don’t proclaim that the vintage Josh Beckett has returned to save the Red Sox season. It’s was an encouraging start, certainly better than the 2.1 inning debacle against Cleveland just six days ago. Currently Beckett’s ERA sits just under 5 for the season and Jack Hannahan is still slugging 4.000 against him.
Let’s see how he does against tougher opposition before we decide it’s “2007 again”.
